Welcome Class!

Welcome to Social Media Class at Kean University.

We will be using a blog format to submit almost all of our class assignments. As part of our class, you will be asked to post to our blog, write in blog / online style, and engage in online discussion with your class colleagues.

I look forward to meeting with you and getting to know everyone better.

  1. I think it makes sense for our class to have a blog for that we will know or have better knowledge to use it in the future for our work. This is a social media class and blogging is a big part of social media and for businesses, learning how to blog is critical for the future. Also on assignments, we can all understand everyones point of view and how they feel about the topic instead of just the teacher reading the work. Like John, I also want to learn how to blog properly and learn who and what to follow in my own blog. When using this for personal branding, I think it would help me with future businesses I may have to work with, or even getting into a business. Other bloggers will see how I work and think which will be a positive thing for personal branding. I have chosen to follow SB Nation's blog, the reason being I am very big into sports and this blog is all about sports and all their major headlines that happen daily.

  2. Seeing as this is a class that discusses the ways social media affects our everyday lives, it makes complete sense that we have to take part in an online blog. Having a class meeting once a week makes it hard for lessons to stick as well as having two classes during the week. An online blog is a perfect way to keep up with the lessons throughout the week as well as getting accustomed to using social media forums. Times are changing quickly and in order to keep up we must inform and familiarize ourselves with this new way of communicating. At this rate it is either stay ahead or fall behind, as many elderly people have learned in the past few years when having to deal with technology to complete the simplest of tasks.

I am majoring in marketing, a field that is becoming more and more internet-based. The internet has opened up so many avenues for the marketing industry and I want to keep myself informed about there is to know on the subject of social media. I am only a facebook user, and was not aware of the thousands of blogs there were out there. I would like to know more about why this trend is rising so quickly. A lot of my friends are addicted to twitter but I just can't seem to understand the hype. Maybe after learning more about all of the uses there are through these forums, I will join one and understand why our country has become so blog-crazed in the past few years. Twitter seems really fun but I am just unsure how to post and use the forum in general. I am told that the website is useful in many ways, namely marketing, which is how many people quickly get the name of their company out efficiently.
