I am the Silent Creator

The personal brand that fits me best is "The Silent Creator." I am a "man of few words," someone who is behind the scenes and yet contributes great ideas.

I love being creative, always try to think outside the box and be the last one to put my input on something.

For example: Coming up with one of the best marketing campaign projects in one of my advertising classes due to the fact that I created the most buzz for my project.

Ultimately when I graduate, I want to be a creative director at an ad agency. I love commercials, especially clever and funny ones.

To begin branding myself, I am going to start microblogging about advertising campaigns.

The purpose of this is to offer "the ordinary man's thoughts on the best and worst advertisements." Television, print, online, billboards, whatever.

Using humor, I will critique ads, campaigns, copywriting, and even suggest ways that I would do things differently.

There are a few blogs that do something similar including [http://www.ibelieveinadv.com/]. However, mine will be more engaging by asking the audience their thoughts on the ads and how they think they can make it better.

To create and generate traffic to my blog, I will spread the news by word of mouth and also link the site to my twitter and also Facebook.

My Brand: The Average NY Fan

Last week, we were given the assignment to create and build our own personal brand.

I began to wonder, "how do I want to be perceived?"

I began the process naming a few things that interest me: music, movies, video games, sports ... wait, stop right there.

Music, movies and video games are intereseting. But I am not nearly as passionate about any of them as I am sports.
  • I go to as many games as possible.
  • I bleed the colors of my favorite teams.
  • I can also talk all day about how this team is better than that team
  • Or how that player is better than this player
I don’t yet have the credentials or experience to go on ESPN and talk sports (I at least need my degree for that).

That's when it hit me. My personal brand is "The Average Fan." My five friends and I are starting a blog named http://tristatefannation.blogspot.com/

We are going to do our own commentary about our favorite teams and how we believe they should be run -- from the average person's perspective.

I started to do research on sport fan blogs for all the teams that I like. Each team had individual blogs and websites. I realized though that there was no blog that discussed all of the NY-area teams.

We want to create a place where fans can go and find out information about their teams and then have their own ideas about the topic be heard by us and other fans following the blog.

I'm not ready yet to talk about how to drive people to the blog - but will in the next few weeks. Stay tuned.

What We Have In Common

The new wave of Instagram is here!

Pinterest is the only thing that I have been hearing for the past few months. I was curious but never really cared to see what was Pinterest all about because I just figured it was another Social Media tool to bring people that like the same thing together. So when you told us to sign up for a new Social Media tool, I thought  why not something I am curious about.

Almost like Instagram but is a new tool that could be used to really start a company in my eyes. I am still new to this website and trying to figure it out, but from the time I have been using it, companies should be using this site.

If I like a picture that I see on this website I could "like it" and/or I can "repin" it which means that who ever "repins" it joins a group that finds that picture interesting or useful.

Some companies I've seen so far are Disney, bakeries, and Reeses. Reeses have been showing many pictures of recipes on other ways to use there candy. Disney was showing pictures toys they have and pictures of there theme parks.

Bakeries are on this sight a lot, due to the simple fact that when they are done making there dessert they take a picture and post it on Pinterest to let people see how nice it came out.

Now that I am on Pinterest I do not really seeing myself using Instagram any more!

StumbleUpon Has Competition

I can spend hours on www.Stumbleupon.com and look through the most useless stuff and still have a blast.

Well, my sister always raves about Pinterest. She had just bought a new house and she keeps coming up with these cool new ideas for designing and decorating. When I asked, "where'd you get that from, you're not that creative?" she responds with Pinterest.

After visiting the website, it was easy to sign up. I clicked on a few pictures that interested me and clicked create profile.

With those 5 clicks, I just let Pinterest know exactly what I am into and what I find interesting.

After my profile was created, my home page was full of so many things I am interested in, and surprisingly more educational than stumble upon.

166140673724683546_pBNfUkls.jpg
On my home page, since the site knows I like cars. Ferrari had this really cool bicycle on it. Just by looking at the bike, it seems like its speeding whens it’s standing still. Ferrari is getting its name out there and that it produces more than just really fast automobiles.

LinkedIn

I think connections and networking are great ways to get ahead and land new internships, jobs, etc.

Therefore, since most of us now have a linkedIn profile, I think it is imperative that we all become "connected". It's all about who you know!

Can you Digg it?

I have literally signed up for every possible social media outlet tool available... or so I thought.

Digg.com has been mentioned a couple of times to me but I never thought much of it. Like many college students, my news comes from Facebook, Twitter and TMZ, with the occasional skimming of NYTimes or WSJ.

But Digg has created an easy way of having all note-worthy stories compiled and placed in one spot. According to wikipedia, "Digg is a social news website. It allows people to vote web content up or down, called digging and burying, respectively."

My job requires me to stay up-to-date on all news from musical trends to the stock market and Digg.com makes this all simple with one page!

I think this is genius, surely there are other websites that follow this format but Digg.com makes it effortless to catch up on news stories. I signed up via Facebook, which means that I didnt even need to input any of my information as it was all taken from Facebook, with my permission of course.

I love the simplicity of the site and the fact that every story is worth reading, regardless of the genre. Each story that is chosen has a link to the original source.

I would defintely recommend that you go register for Digg.com. Make sure you let others know if you digg the story or if it should be buried!

Twitter: Beginning Tweets

For the past two years I have had a Twitter account, but have felt too busy and inadequate to start "tweeting". Finally, thanks to this wonderful class, I am taking it more seriously and trying my best to keep up with the ever-growing Twitter world.

To begin, I had to change my password, since it's probably been a year since I've logged in last. After doing so, I began editing my profile. I had fun doing this, it reminded of the days when Facebook was new, and Myspace was still popular. I changed my picture from the default icon, made my first tweet, and followed my first "followee" (?). Now that I have become a little more accustomed to it, I feel like Twitter is going to be so fun!

Another reason that I am really excited to start using Twitter is that many businesses use the website to connect with consumers and relay important information about their company's latest endeavors. ESPN is a great example of how this is being done. The company prioritizes keeping sports fan up-to-date with what is going in the world of sports, and Twitter has modernized the channel's way of doing so. Now people can have reports on their favorite teams while the team is practicing, playing in a competition, or celebrating a huge win.

I'm sure there are still plenty of people out there unwilling to give Twitter a try, but I am one of millions who can vow that it is a great site. Yes, signing up and getting started may seem tedious, but that is just the price one must pay in order to gain access to an amazing forum of current events. And let's not forget, Rome wasn't built in a day.

So if you're reluctant to get on your "Twitter game", I suggest you suck it up and get started. This type of social networking is unlike any other I've ever used.

I'm Finally Linkedin

When we were assigned to join a social media tool that we were not using, I knew that it was time to do something that I have been meaning to do, join Linkedin.

Linkedin is a website for business professionals to meet and keep in touch with other business professionals and do things such as find and list jobs, as well as follow different companies and get breaking news from the business world.

I have been meaning to join this website for awhile now, but was thwarted by the fact that none of my connections(friends) use or know how to use Linkedin, but I decided that if I wanted to be involved in the business world I would have to create an account.

The first thing I did when I joined Linkedin was upload my resume to my profile. Once my resume finished uploading I started to look for connections and companies that I could see myself working or interning for. I wasn’t able to find a lot of connections at first, but I am sure that the more I use this social media tool the more successful I will become in finding a company or hiring manager willing to give me an opportunity, which is all I’m asking for.

If you are a business student and do not have a Linkedin account (like myself before the other day), I strongly recommend that you do start one.

There is no other social media tool on the internet that can successfully help students connect to companies, and find a job upon graduation better than Linkedin.

So what are you waiting for become Linkedin,

Let’s Tweet !!

I just signed up for Twitter!

lets-tweet-again-L-1.jpegSigned up for Twitter is so simple.  Now I can follow and view updates from other users.

As a “Twittee”, I can say That Twitter is a great tool for getting news, keeping up with current issues and much more.

But , what I can Tweet about? ”

Maybe, I can Tweet about my experience in the United States

“ So what’s next?”

I just decide to follow  (@CNN). The CNN using Twitter to communicate with people via short and instant messages in a real time.  A very good way to stay informed of world news.

"Twitter ? No Way ! "

1st reaction : Overdose !

Let me explain to you...
I don't know if you have the same reaction than me, but when there is a good movie, everybody rushes to watch it, everybody talks about it, advertisings and promotion are everywhere, and for me, this is sometimes TOO MUCH ! I have an overdose of it even before watching it...

This is what happened to me with Twitter.

It had been several years that I had heard a lot of things about this social media. Before coming to the United States, I thought that Twitter was just a copy of facebook but worse, because of the limit  in characters. Now I know I was wrong...

2nd reaction : Why not me ?

Twitter is much more developed in the US than in France. Or maybe it's just the way we talk about it which is different and more negative in France. Before coming here, the only thing I knew about it, was just that people were describing their lives on it, nothing more. I could not imagine that Twitter could have an utility !

Now that I live in the US, the speech is different, and I changed my mind. Twitter is not as stupid as I had imagined ! You can use it for business (job opportunities), to get informed of what happens in the world or simply follow the things you are interested in !

My conclusion to this would be that nothing is worth the experience ! In a lot of situations, we are absorbed by our stereotypes, but in fact if you never try, you'll never know !

3rd reaction: let's do it !

Today, I created my own account and chose to follow several pages. I focused on different subjects I am interested in : music, photography and business pages.
By the way, I would recommend you to visit this web site Earth from Above. Yann Arthus Bertrand is a french photographer who travelled all around the world and acts in favour of the environment.

I am happy to have experienced Twitter because I have discovered a useful tool for my personal career and my general culture !
Greenpeace is the NGO I chose to follow on Twitter, to get informed of their actions, environment issues and their jobs/internships opportunities.

( I M ) POSSIBLE ...

There are those who look at things the way they are, and ask why... I dream of things that never were, and ask why not? " Robert F. Kennedy.

“Why not? “  Two words full of hope and full of sense.  Nothing is impossible in this world. If you read correctly the world impossible you can see  I am possible. Yes you are!

If you believe that nothing is impossible you can make it possible.

I believe in my dream but how do I make my dreams reality?

To succeed in the most difficult tasks, you need to work very hard, extra determination and believe in what you do. You should have patience and passion. You must acquire the resources that make success possible. Never give up. Keep going even if it’s hard.

You can face obstacles, but you can master them. Be positive!!

My target audience is for all the people who want change the world.

Let me just share something brief with you . The story of the President of the United States Barack Obama. The man who made history by becoming the first black President of the United States.

I can also remember you the wonderful story of of Rosa Parks , who refused to obey bus driver's order that she give up her seat in the colored section to a white passenger.
This women became important symbols of the modern civil rights.

Yes , we can change the world !!

To share all this stories with you , I want to start a Facebook page called " Impossible is Possible"

“I have a dream That impossible became possible for every human being in this world.

What’s yours?

But now I know why everyones on Twitter!
               Its Awesome!

As I major in marketing I realize that social media will follow me for the rest of my life and I will follow it aswell. Signing up for twitter gives me a better chance to show future employers my brand image.

I have just hit the follow button on Twitter for Samsung (@SamsungMobile). The Samsung Corporation is really hitting social media hard, using it to advertise their new products and to announce their new commercials. That's a First!

Twitter is not as bad as I thought. Its actually pretty fun!

Once you get the hang of it, it's pretty much the same as blogging, but simpler. You can make updates on where you are, what you're eating, or even any events that might seem interesting.

I've always had this twitter account just sitting there and never took it upon myself to navigate it. That is the reason why I chose to try it.

The first thing I did was follow anyone because I was very alone. As I found people that I would follow, I became more interested on what they had to say.

So I all of the sudden I think to myself "I should follow the news (mainly concerned about trends and top news on sports and things that matter to me) to keep myself posted" I did indeed, and it works like charm!

The Fox News Network (https://twitter.com/FoxNews) @FoxNews is who I decided to follow, and that serves as a great example of a company using social media to reach people at a more personal level. Also, to receive info on any amazing stories. I've seen it on their twitter account myself.

Blogging Evolution: Why We Should Start Blogging!

Hello, my name is Michael Petruzzella, and I am going to reveal something to you, the reader of this blog something that you would not expect. Sadly, the truth is that this is my first real blog post. I have been on BlogSpot since the spring 2012 semester, but only for my management systems class to post research, that my team had conducted into the management information systems of a certain company. The reason being is that I personally did not believe that there were many benefits in blogging, mainly because none of my friends or people, whom I am close with, wrote or followed blogs. After doing research after our first class together, I realized that if I wanted to really make any kind of mark in my degrees industry, which is Marketing, I would have to start following blogs, and most of all work on my own personal brand.

The reason that it makes sense for our class to have a blog is basically because if we truly want to have a sense of what is going on in the social media world, it is necessary for our class to develop a blog. Blogging to its core is designed to bring together people with similar views, and have them join in conversation, and learn from one another about their shared interests. So for us to have a feel for what the social media world is doing which is forever changing, a class blog can help us stay on top and ahead of moving trends.

What I would like to get out of this blog is an understanding of the correct way to blog and what to look for in blogs you are following, and just to join this whole blogging community. Also I believe that the better blogger I become the more I could build upon my personal brand, which is one of the most important things you could do as someone trying to break through in the business world. So any feedback that I can get from my fellow classmates or our professor will be greatly appreciated.

The blog that I have decided to follow is http://marketing-expert.blogspot.com/ or The Marketing Blog. The blog is about what is going on in the Marketing world, as told by the author, Michael Fleischner, who shares his more than 14 year experience in the marketing industry with anyone interested in learning more about marketing or Internet marketing. I chose to follow this blog because it described what I am trying to do while in school and in my everyday life, which is get as much information into the Marketing world that I could get, before I have to go and hit the job market. I hope that this blog could give me the knowledge into understanding this industry that I am developing a huge passion for.

-Michael Petruzzella
P.S. Sorry for the late post, I didn't know how to officially get into the blog until our second class.

Out With The Old, In With The New

I could see lots of people finding no sense in having a class blog. But when you think of it, it can be very useful and rewarding!

It makes sense to use the blog for SOCIAL MEDIA, but, it can be as fun and innovative for any other class. I don't know about anybody else, but I find that the old "professor talking my brains out then having to read a chapter while answering the same old case study questions" method can be a bit upsetting.

The most I can get form participating in this blog is a sense of real world Social Media. That is exactly what I need. Everything today is internet is practically internet based, especially marketing. I think this is the best way to approach the class and make the best of it.

I don't have a particular brand in mind. But I would definitely build my personal brand through blog spot by being as specific and creative as possible.

I have decided to follow the following blog. http://www.technobuffalo.com Techno Buffalo is a technology based blog which follow a number of products and their technological advances. I have chosen this blog just because of my interest in the latest smartphones, tablets, computers, and even news on competitive advantages for products. For example, the new iPhone 5 came out last week. They keep you posted on every single rumor and they provide their sources, which can give followers a piece of mind. They are very exciting. You should take a look!

Manuel Gonzalez

First steps on class blog

It makes sense to work on a blog project because I think that practice is more important than theory. Knowledge is of course essential but not very useful if you do not put it in practice! In France, classes tend to be boring because we always discuss facts. We are sitting for eight hours a day, and sometimes it is difficult to see the link between what we learn in school and how the world of business works.

I am really happy to attend a practice class at Kean University.
Next year: labor market!
It is exciting and in the meantime quite scary... This is one the reason why I would like to be more active on the web. I know it will play a key role in my future career. In addition, English is not my mother tongue, so updating a blog is a perfect opportunity for me to improve my level in English.
I still do not have a personal brand, but I know this class will give me the keys of success if I decide one day to have my own business and my own blog.
http://www.wordonthemarket.com/ is the blog I will follow this semester. It is about marketing in general and there is a section about social media. This blog is a good compliment to my marketing major.

Charlotte Flomet

The first building blog!

Why write research papers, if you can blog?!
since we only have class once a week, this blog will keep us all interconnected whether we are in class or not. This is my first blog ever and i don't even know if I am doing it right or not. but this further enhances the reason why we should blog; that is to get better at it.

Having a blog covers so many topics that people are talking about around you.  this enlightens you of what is going on in the world around us today from different peoples points of views.

since i am a huge New York Jets fan and I have an internship with them, i thought it would be perfect for me to blog about them.

I decided to follow the official jets blog at, www.thejetsblog.com. This blog gives me insight of what happened in the game and what happened behind the scenes that were reported by the media.

Also, twitter is a growing social media network. It so fast that it knows when a player is injured before he gets hurt ;) haha.

GO JETS!

Why Blogging Is Right For Us

I think it makes sense for our class to have a blog, we will know how to use it in the future for our work.

This is a social media class and blogging is a big part of social media and for businesses, learning how to blog is critical for the future. Also on assignments, we can all understand everyones point of view and how they feel about the topic instead of just the teacher reading the work.

Like John, I also want to learn how to blog properly and learn who and what to follow in my own blog.

When using this for personal branding, I think it would help me with future businesses I may have to work with, or even getting into a business. Other bloggers will see how I work and think which will be a positive thing for personal branding.

I have chosen to follow SBNation.com blog, the reason being I am very big into sports and this blog is all about sports and all their major headlines that happen daily.

Craig Ludington

The only changes I have made to my blog entry was to make it easier to read and I bolded the important element to my blog. Also I added a link to whom I am following in my blog.

Goodbye Microsoft Word and Hello Blogspot!

Traditional methods of handing in your homework have officially been left in the dust, as for this class we will be blogging!! Without a doubt I can say I think it is a great idea! Blogging for a class like social media does not only make sense because of the topic of the course but it will get students to understand  what blogging is all about and also give us a chance to try it firsthand. Most courses at Kean we sit in a class room for three months with people we barely know when we first enter the classroom at the beginning of the semester and still do not know by the time it is completed. But by using a blog we can get to know each other and what makes each of us unique through the style of our writing, the content of our message and our response to others.

As for my personal brand, that is a mystery that I have not yet solved. I am working as a full time personal and commercial insurance sales producer during the week day, student two days night, and pizzeria owner on select nights during the week and all through weekend. I hope by using this blog I will begin to filter through the many hats I wear and be able to promote myself in a manner I feel explains “me” and sets me aside from all the other hard working people that surround me.

I follow two blogs religiously; glitter guide and gawkerverse. But of the two I have been following glitter guide for almost a year now and I can say I truly have not been bored of its content in the least bit. I use it purely for my personal interest when I have free time to unwind and get lost in the blogs content. Do not let its overly feminine name fool you, it is not about lolly pops and roses but rather things that girls normally question and never have answers too. Things such as tips on entertaining do it yourself projects, music and gift buying.  This blog is not for everyone but definitely can entertain me for hours!

Let's do it !!

It seems to be natural and necessary for our Social Media Class to have a blog. Setting up a blog is necessary all for the following reasons:

-      By practicing and setting up a Blog it provides an educational opportunity for us to become more familiar with the use and importance of Blogs, both by using it and seeing its functions.  It will also enable us to develop a blog writing style which is necessary for social media and for modern day technology and marketing.

-      Blogging will give us the opportunity to network with one another, therefore giving each of us the ability to share our ideas and insights in order to create the most effective product or idea.

Being an International Student, my goals for this class is to improve my written style in Social Media and Blogs, therefore giving me the opportunity to take full advantage of such an educational, productive, useful and informative tool offered to us in modern day society.

I also hope that the practice and use of Blogs from Social Media will help me to create an active blog for my personal brand one day. By being able to share my ideas and by taking advice from others, a blog networks a product or idea together in order to achieve success.

USAID.png

The blog I am going to follow is USAID’s blog:  http://blog.usaid.gov/. This blog shares the stories of success, failure and mid-course corrections. Its purpose is to connect and educate everyone in order to help reduce world poverty.
When I interned at USAID in Morocco, I used to follow this blog. It showed me the importance and effectiveness that blogs can have worldwide.

Blogging : Till Loss of Internet Connection Do Us Part

As a college student living in what many may say is the technology revolution I an no longer limited to keep the communication within the classrooms.
Having a blog for this class makes perfect sense since it will create not only a bond with each other but also give us the right experience for what lies ahead in our future. At a time where social media has exploded within several years getting used of using it will later help me from having to play catch up with all the new technology that comes out in the near future.

Using the blog for class will make us better writers in social media which is heavily part of marketing for businesses today.
Being new to the blogging scene has made me aware that there are millions of people who blog on a daily basis. After blogger for this class I would like to have disciplined myself in making sure all my social networking sites are being maintained.

Creating a personal brand can be quite difficult when there are millions of people doing the same. I will create my personal brand through this blog by trying to be unique and as creative as possible. Standing out in a positive way is a way to get noticed.

Mensfitness.com/blogs is the blog I chose to follow since it is very helpful in giving advice not only on fitness but about ways to make life happier.

How I improved my blog?

I made it more personal and i also shortened the paragraphs to maximim of two sentences.

If I knew the writing principles before hand I wouldnt have been so general. I would have also talk more about who I am, so I could be more credible.

Why Am I Blogging for Homework!?

The obvious answer to this questions would be, "Well, you're in a Social Media Class, duh!" but the answer is much more complex than that.

Recently, I have noticed that social media could possibly be taking over the world and if you are not up-to-date on the new trends, such as blogging and twitter, then you will be left in the dust.

Personally, as a full-time college student, full-time employee and entrepreneur, blogging is the quickest way for me to stay connected with friends, family and even strangers who can relate.

Academically, it makes sense for this class to have a blog for many reasons:
  • A blog is the easiest, fastest way to get your ideas on the internet and as long as someone is interested in what you have to say, you have an audience. Getting started with this class will help us all either get started and take that first step or continue to practice in a blog scene with the class as our audience.
  • Having a blog will allow us all to get to know each other better and read each others thoughts on certain issues.
  • This class will allow us to start a blog with no expectations except to learn and grow. Constructive criticism will also help us all become better "blog writers" and eventually become experts!
After this semester, I would love to have made some connections with students and be able to network.

Since I am in the process of opening up my new online clothing boutiques, I have hopes of driving some students to visit my future site and in return tell their friends about it. (Crossing my fingers this happens before December!)

I also hope that this blog will be the perfect tool for helping me become a better blogger to attract more attention to my business, my brand and myself.

As I write for this class and build my personal brand, I will show my personality and allow others to feel like they "know me" and can relate to me.

Honesty is what makes others want to trust you and eventually want to do business with you.

The blog that I have chosen to follow is one that I have been following for years.

Jennifer Stano is Co-designer of a swimsuit line called Have Faith Swimgerie, fashion/beauty/health blogger and a major fashionista! She has been my inspiration for many aspects in my life and her blog is always fun and informative for the everyday girl.

www.jenniferstano.blogspot.com

Since I am obsessed with everything beauty and fashion, she is like the older sister I never had and always wished for. She also started her own swimsuit line 2 years ago and posts business tips from time to time.

Unit 1 / Blogging

I think it makes sense for our class to have a blog because social media is based around the various ways a person or company can label and brand them selves using the internet to sell what they have to offer.  Having a blog will allow our class to be able to communicate and learn from each other by posting ideas and commenting to help each other become better bloggers.  I want to be able to know how to use a blog properly, because this is the first time using a blog on my own.  I have used a blog previously with a group project.  I will build my personal brand through this blog by creating a name for myself that will get me noticed for what I am passionate about and what I believe in.  I hope to also use my blog as a way to network with others for potential job opportunities that I share similar interest with.  I have chosen to follow Anthony Bourdain's blog from the travel channel.  I have been watching his show and he makes me more interested in the restaurant industry and how different people and cultures life on a day to day basis.

Welcome Class!

Welcome to Social Media Class at Kean University.

We will be using a blog format to submit almost all of our class assignments. As part of our class, you will be asked to post to our blog, write in blog / online style, and engage in online discussion with your class colleagues.

I look forward to meeting with you and getting to know everyone better.
